Required.
Type: string (usually translating to a number, but sometimes papers give depth ranges)
Description: Sampling depth in meters, that is as the vertical distance below surface. For sediment or soil samples depth is measured from sediment or soil surface, respectively. An exact depth is preferred, but sometimes sources give ranges (e.g. "1-2"). These have been be left as is in Metalog database and need to be handled by the user.
For water samples, the depth below the surface of the water at
which a measurement was made or a sample was collected. For sediment samples,
water_depth_meters may also be used to denote the water depth at the sampling location.
